If you're making the journey between Rote and Kupang on a Monday, Wednesday or Friday you can choose to do so by plane. It's a beautiful 20 minute ride, with the most spectacular views. Choose from either Wings Air, which is a standard 40 seater commercial plane, or Susi Air, a small 12 seater. You can only hand luggage (around 7kg per person I think) on the small plane, so it's only for those who are travelling light (unless you want to send your luggage on the ferry, which can be arranged).
We took the small plane for the first time earlier this year, and it was amazing!
